Now this is how a bi-partisan Congress should work

A few days ago, Bo placed a post on here about Johnny Sutton and the Compean-Ramos trial.  Please take a look at that article, as it will frustrate you as you wonder what President Bush is doing. Things are starting to look up though, as both Republicans and Democrats in Congress have been working together.

There has been public outrage as it seems that our President seems more willing to appease the Mexican government and a drug dealer than it does the brave men and women protecting our borders. The wheels have been in motion, spurred by public outcry, and now we are seeing some results

March 1, 2007
38 Republican congressman write a letter to Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi. In the letter, they are critical of the prosecutor US Attorney Johnny Sutton and federal investigators.

Our Border Patrol Agents have an especially dangerous and difficult job, and because of the outcome of this case, many are now second guessing themselves and questioning when and where they should draw their weapons out of fear of prosecution. The safety of our agents and their ability to defend our borders has been materially damaged.

The letter also was addressed to Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., chairman of the House Judiciary Committee; Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee; and Rep. Henry Waxman, D-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight & Government Reform Committee.

Among the Republican signatories are Reps. Ted Poe and John Culberson of Texas; Duncan Hunter, Dana Rohrabacher and Mary Bono of California; Dan Burton of Indiana; Frank Wolf of Virginia; and Tom Tancredo of Colorado

This caused Patrick Leahy (D-VT) to give permission to Diane Feinstein (D-CA) permission to investigate. You can read the article from World Net Daily here.

Democrat Diane Feinstein and Republican John Cornyn after going through the findings have submitted a letter the President Bush asking to commute the sentences. Here is a guy who just commuted the sentence of Scooter Libby, who’s punishment seemed harsh, but nothing like this

Ramos and Compean are serving 11- and 12-year prison sentences, respectively, after a jury convicted them of violating federal gun laws and covering up the shooting of a drug smuggler as he fled back to Mexico after driving across the border with 742 pounds of marijuana. U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton’s office gave the smuggler, Osbaldo Aldrete-Davila, immunity to serve as the government’s star witness and testify against the border agents.

There are so many fishy things going on here:

  • US Attorney Johnny Sutton refuses to testify before the House Foreign Affairs Committee
  • President Bush refuses to pardon these two
  • Congress is investigating the Mexican government’s involvement
  • The length of the sentences
  • The character witness as a know Mexican drug dealer

And the list goes on and on.

At least Congress is doing something right, working together, investigating the facts, and working for justice. Now, it’s time for you to get on board Mr. President!

  1. Glenn Beck had Dana Rohrabacher (US Congressman- CA) speaking about the updates of the Compean and Ramos case. Thought people may find it interesting.
