AFL-CIO against the immigration bill

Now, I’ll admit, I’m not one that tends to side with the unions very often.  But even on this horrible immigration bill, now opposed by 80% of Americans, the AFL-CIO has come out in opposition.

The AFL-CIO formally came out against the bill Wednesday, reflecting the distaste among manufacturing unions and others whose members have been displaced by overseas competition and would have to compete with an influx of cheaper workers who don’t have labor rights.

Wow, when I’m agreeing with the labor unions you know this is a rare issue. With an approval rating of 14% and an overwhelming majority of Americans in opposition to the bill, can someone tell me why the Senate is trying to breath life back into this thing? The only organizations that I can find that support this bill are immigration groups.

  1. The business interests that hire illegals have their K street lobbyists working overtime in the support of this Dog of a bill. That’s the real power behind passing this legislation.

The unions are actually split on this issue. AFL-CIO is against it. However ,several very large service industry unions are in favor of it because they have large numbers of illegals working in the industries their members work in and expect this bill to give them an increase in membership.

The scientifically impossible I do right away
The spiritually miraculous takes a bit longer
