Must Read of the Day: The Middle East Pressure Cooker – is Russia stoking the flame?

The region has never been stable, but with the events in Gaza, and other recently developing stories, is the Middle East powder keg about to explode?  Let’s take a look at some of the stories that are surrounding the area:

Russia Sells Fighter Planes to Syria, alarms Israel

Apparently, Russia has sold some of its advanced MiG-31 Fighter Jets to Syria.  Of course, this should be a major concern considering:

The MiG-31, considered one of the best fighters in the world, can carry guided missiles with a range of more than 200 kilometres (125 miles) and is capable of striking 24 different targets simultaneously

Now to me, Russia is a very scary and dangerous country. When you look inside what is happening in Russia, you may think twice as to who’s the biggest threat. While I would doubt that Russia would be the ones who are looking to make an attack, they could be the facilitators.

Let’s take a look at some facts just about Russia itself

  • Their current birthrate is around 1.1, meaning that every generation halves the one before
  •  The current abortion rate in Russia is 70%.  Can you imagine that number- 70%- 7 out of every 10 pregnancies ends with an abortion
  • No civilization has ever survived a birthrate of 1.3 which is considered by demographers to be lowest-low

Now lets take a look at some economic factors

  • Russia is a nuclear power
  • They have a diminishing workforce, and are on hard economic times
  • Their technology, militarily speaking, is some of the most advanced in the region

What do these things have in common with each other?

If your society is dwindling, and you have a shortage of workers, how is your economy going to grow? It can’t, if you population is being cut in half it is impossible for your economy to grow. When that economy stalls, how will Russia survive? It will survive by selling its military machinery and nuclear capabilities to those who don’t have it themselves.

Now lets take a look at some of the countries in the Middle East

What do they lack? Military might and nuclear capabilities. But what do they have? Money, and lots of it. Billions upon billions of oil dollars that will allow them to purchase the technologies they cannot produce.  It’s starting now with fighter jets, but there are far more profitable nuclear technologies that will come available as their economy continues to dwindle and Russia becomes more desperate.
