A few things to make you laugh…(or scratch your head)

Just a few things that I saw throughout the news that I thought were funny, interesting, and even somewhat unbelievable.

This one came out (no pun intended) a little while back, but it’s still worth a look.  Did you hear about the ‘gay bomb’?  Yes, the military was actually trying to create a bomb that would turn the enemy gay in hopes that they would be attracted to each other and thus unable to fight.  I don’t know what’s more laughable

  • That they thought you could spray a chemical on someone and make them gay
  • That they think that if you’re gay, you’d be unable to concentrate with other soldiers around you
  • Or that they wanted $7.5 million to develop the weapon.

Okay, how about this one for brilliance. A Broward County (FL) radio station was chosen to broadcast hurricane information. WIOD AM 610 was chosen because of it’s signal strength, meaning they could use the station to hit a large surrounding audience. However, local Democrats are trying to block this from happening because the station has a partnership with Fox and airs conservative talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

“They are politicizing the delivery of emergency news, which is non-partisan,” said Limbaugh, who lives in Palm Beach. “They are making weather a partisan issue.”

Ken Charles, WIOD’s director of AM programming, said Tuesday the station’s talk show lineup has no relationship with its news coverage and that the county should focus on the benefits of teaming with the station. “It’s a shame that people would let politics get in the way of saving lives in a hurricane,” Charles said.

How about Angelina Jolie and her new movie about Freedom of Press

Angelina is portraying the wife of murdered WSJ reporter Daniel Pearl in a new movie A Mighty Heart. The movie has been touted as a freedom of press movie. Well, apparently, she doesn’t practice what she portrays. Apparently, her lawyer made the press sign a contract before talking to her, and her publicist tries to bar Fox News from the Red Carpet.

Ironically, Wednesday night’s premiere of the excellent Michael Winterbottom-directed film was meant to support an organization called Reporters Without Borders. Jolie, however, did everything she could to clamp down on the press and control it.

And finally, here’s one from Britain. Apparently, there is a 100,000 sq foot advertisement of a silhouette of a naked pole dancerat the Gatwick Airport. Now, when you’re on the ground, you can’t see a thing because it is brushed into the grass. However, from above, you can see the ad as an airline passenger. Just a little something to make you laugh.
