More Al Gore Hypocricy

No, not showing how Al Gore is champion for the end of global warming from his energy guzzling mansion and private jet.  However, why is no one talking about these comments.  In 1992, Al Gore stood and said the George HW Bush (41) was ignoring the threat in Iraq and that he was in bed with the terrorists.  It appears to be political pandering, because as soon as we went into Iraq to get Saddam, he couldn’t believe the audacity of imperialist America.

Which is it?

  1. Al Gore is a very confused man. He wanted to be president and that didn’t happen. I think he’s hoping that global warming IS a huge issue because he wants to be the man that changed the world and I think that he thinks this is his issue, his way to make history now that he won’t be president. He’s just as much a narcissist as Hilary et al.
And Geez Al, isn’t being vice president of the United States a pretty good darn accomplishment in and of itself?

  2. How does Gore’s 1992 characterization of George H.W. Bush come off as “hypocritical” while Cheney’s complete reversal of position is–what?–an evolution in his thinking?

Dick Cheney defended the decision to leave Saddam Hussein in power after the first Gulf War. In a speech to the Discovery Institute in August 1992, nearly 18 months after U.S.forces routed the Iraqi army and liberated Kuwait he told the Seattle audience that capturing Saddam wouldn’t be worth additional U.S. casualties or the risk of getting “bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq. I would guess if we had gone in there, I would still have forces in
Baghdad today, we’d be running the country.”

  3. This is nothing but “spin,” taken out of context and time. At the time Bush made the tragic mistake to take out Saddam, over the objections of his father (a great President), Gerald Ford, former NSA General, and many others, Saddam was a “paper tiger.”

We need an honest debate and discussion, not this type of deliberate distortion.

  4. Select,
Who said anything about Cheney? Hypocricy is hypocricy, and it could come from the left or the right. So if you feel that Cheney is a hypocrite for what he said, then how come you don’t feel Al Gore is?

The reason this is so hypocritical is because it just goes to show you that our politicians are more concerned about politics than solutions. How, in 1992 could Saddam be a terrorist provider with nuclear aspirations that G HW Bush was in bed with, and then in 2002, he was not a person we should be concerned with and there is no reason to go into Iraq? Which is it? When 1 president didn’t go in, he criticized him, when the other did go in, he criticized him for the opposite reasons. That’s a hypocrite.

  5. patton 007,
I don’t see how this is spin, could you further your thoughts for me? I’d appreciate it.

I simply brought up the fact that in 92, Gore was all for going in and getting him because at that time the Republican President was not. However, in 02, he scrapped everything that he thought about Saddam and said we should not go in (bc at that time the Republican president thought we should).

It’s pure politics, and helps no one.
